IDP Training Week

JeanGabIschia Dolphin Project 2015 has officially started with a training week on 11th -16th May for ODO staff and new joiners to get ready for a full summer of research and monitoring activities in the water of Ischia and Ventotene.  First on the list at Casamicciola dock is Jean Gab, our stunning lab-vessel, - back in the water from the winter maintenance – getting ready to host the crew for the research season.

UNDERWATER PARADISE THE MALDIVES UNDER THREAT
The search for crude oil under the sea floor around the Maldives was one of President Abdulla Yameen’s key election pledges. But oil exploration and production trigger environmental issues that pose a serious threat to both marine animals and the islands’ status as a tourist paradise. According to local NGO Blue Peace, 80 per cent of the Maldives’ income comes from tourism and the fishing industry.

Ischia and common dolphin: updated the photo-identification catalogue

They are named Catherine, Basil, Carmela, James, Filomena, Norma, Sabella, Zazà ... 97 common dolphins were photo-identified, representing the unique regularly monitored Italian community of an endangered species today rare in the Mediterranean Sea.
