Background
In the Mediterranean Sea, the sperm whale is one of eight regular cetacean species. Sperm whales were once considered to be quite abundant in some parts of the Mediterranean,but large herds are unheard of today.

Un presunto avvistamento di squalo bianco (Carcharodon carcharias) è avvenuto a fine giugno al largo dell'Isola di Capraia durante una campagna di avvistamento Cetacei e tartarughe marine finanziata dalla Provincia di Livorno per il progetto trasfrontaliero ‘Gionha’.

There is grandeur in this view of life, with it’s several powers having been originally breathed into a few forms or one; and that from so simple a beginning endless forms most beautiful and most wonderful have been, and are being, evolved. In 1859 Charles Darwin was thus describing the variety of living forms populating the Earth, considering the routes which led to the current natural design and assembling it all in his theory on the origin of species.
